About Us

The Merthyr Tydfil synagogue project is creating a Welsh Jewish Heritage Centre under the auspices of the Foundation for Jewish Heritage, a charity working internationally to ensure that important Jewish architectural sites, monuments and places of cultural significance in danger are preserved and re-imagined for a sustainable future.

Our Vision

The aim of the Merthyr Tydfil synagogue project is to create a Welsh Jewish Heritage Centre.

The Centre will provide a new and innovative national cultural and educational venue presenting the centuries-old history and traditions of the Jewish community of Wales, promoting inter-cultural dialogue, and ensuring the preservation of an extraordinary Victorian grade II listed former synagogue that is currently at risk.

The Synagogue

Learn about the significance of the historic synagogue of Merthyr Tydfil and the proposed Welsh Jewish Heritage Centre project.

The Merthyr Tydfil synagogue project was delighted to host a special visit by HRH The Prince of Wales in May 2021. Video from the visit is available on our YouTube channel.
